A Close Call on the Motorway – and a Reminder of Modern Safety Tech at Work

Earlier today, one of our PalmerWebb trucks had a very close call while on the motorway, travelling between jobs. What looked like an ordinary drive quickly turned into a potentially serious incident when a sudden chain reaction ahead caused a three–to–four–car collision right in front of us.

Fortunately, the Volkswagen Amarok’s collision avoidance system reacted faster than any human possibly could. Using real-time radar data from multiple sensors around the vehicle, it detected the danger, calculated the available space, and automatically adjusted our course — guiding the truck safely into the next lane.

It all happened in a split second, but that intelligent system quite literally made the difference between a near miss and a serious accident.

Moments like these remind us just how far vehicle safety technology has come — and how invaluable it is for those of us who spend so much time on the road. From adaptive cruise control and side radar monitoring to emergency braking and lane assist, these systems don’t replace good driving — but they do give you an incredible extra layer of protection when the unexpected happens.

We’re incredibly grateful for the outcome today and for the fact that everyone — including the other drivers — walked away unharmed. It’s a testament to the brilliant engineers and safety designers behind modern vehicles like the Amarok, and a reminder that investing in quality, safety-focused transport really does pay off.

Stay safe out there,

The PalmerWebb Team
